Combining Systematic Design and High Performance in a Compact, Cost-Effective Package

Compact Pro's design was inspired by the challenges faced by people in developing regions, particularly low income and air pollution. The designers at Sxdesign sought to create a product that was affordable yet high-performing. Using computational fluid dynamics, they analyzed and optimized the shape of the fan runner, the internal structure, and the overall proportion of the product. The result is a product that significantly outperforms its predecessors while remaining cost-effective.

One of the unique properties of Compact Pro is its systematic optimization. The designers reshaped the fan runner and determined that a square proportion would be more efficient. This change improved the performance by 50%, made better use of space, and allowed for more compact arrangement of the electronics. The design also features a floating table-shaped interaction area with a breathing light, creating a visual center. The minimalist, neutral style of the product conveys an inclusive ethos.

The realization technology of Compact Pro involves a white body with a grey top, made using ABS injection molding. The interactive panel is made of transparent black acrylic. The technical specifications include a CADR of 270m3/h and dimensions of 365mm×420mm×160mm.

The design process of Compact Pro was not without challenges. The design team had to maximize performance and design possibilities within constraints such as cost and aesthetics. This process involved a significant amount of combinatorial experimentation and required various trade-offs. The team had to consider the problem from multiple perspectives, including market, user, function, structure, aesthetics, and craftsmanship.

Despite these challenges, Compact Pro has been recognized for its innovative design and high performance. It was awarded Silver in the A' Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Products Design Award in 2022.
